In addition to achieving leadership positions at nationally recognized
law firms, legal services organizations, and in the judiciary, our GLBT
alumni are also leaders in the movement for equal rights. Graduates include
Urvashi
Vaid, a leading lesbian author and civil rights activist;
Kevin
M. Cathcart, Executive Director of Lambda Legal Defense and
Education Fund, NYC; Richard
Burns, Executive Director of the
LGBT Community Center,
NYC; and Mary Bonauto,
Civil Rights Director at Gay and Lesbian Advocates, Boston. The
law school has an outstanding and supportive faculty, and we welcomed Professor
Taylor
Flynn in 2003 who specializes in transgender legal issues. Law
school faculty, staff and students also serve on Northeastern's Transgender
Task Force, which works to address institutional issues facing transgender
students.
Whether you are recently out, new to town and looking for a way to meet friends and learn about the Boston community, concerned about being out in law firms and traditional legal professions, or want to make GLBT civil rights activism your life’s work, Northeastern is the ideal setting for your legal education. And it isn’t only GLBT students and faculty that make this community so supportive. Committed allies throughout the law school community share a vision for equality and have stood alongside the Queer Caucus in our endeavors.
So, what does it mean to be the queerest law school in the nation? Come see for yourself, by visiting us or asking the admissions office to have a Queer Caucus member contact you. At NUSL, students are the key to our on-going tradition of progressive legal education and training. We hope you choose to join us.
