Moot Court Teams Triumph in National Competitions
3/25/03 -- In a wide variety of Moot Court competitions this winter, students of the School of Law are faring extremely well.
"The teams all worked very hard. With increased support for the moot court program from all quarters of the law school, they are becoming a force to be reckoned with," said Joan Neisser, moot court program manager.
Raheem Mullins '04 and Roxanne Formey '04 tied for best brief at the regional round of the Frederick Douglass Moot Court Competition, receiving a score of 100 points out of a possible 100 points on their brief. In addition, the Northeastern students were one of three teams, the other two from Columbia, selected to represent the Northeast region at the national competition held during the 35th anniversary convention of the National Black Law Students Association in Los Angeles. The Northeastern students had a strong showing at the nationals, where they came in fourth out of 20 teams competing. They also received honorable mention for keeping the spirit of Frederick Douglass alive.
"Roxy and Raheem were the first team in the history of NUSL to place in the regional competition, to win best brief in the regional competition, and to advance to the nationals of the Frederick Douglass Moot Court Competition," said adjunct professor Susan Maze-Rothstein, the team coach. "To make it to fourth place in the national competition, with a total of 100 teams having competed overall nationwide, is a stellar accomplishment."
