Law and Public Health:
A Partnership in Action
November 10-11, 2000
Boston, Massachusetts
In celebration of the new Northeastern/Tufts dual-degree
program leading to the JD/MPH, the two institutions will jointly sponsor a fall conference on Law and Public Health: A Partnership in Action. The conference will bring together
public health officials, lawyers, policymakers and academics to discuss how the disciplines of law and
public health can work together. Scheduled speakers include: Dr. Joycelyn Elders, former U.S. Surgeon
General; the Honorable Michael S. Dukakis, professor of political science at Northeastern University and former
governor of Massachusetts; Michael Pertschuk, co-director of the Advocacy Institute and
former chairman of the Federal Trade Commission; Dr. Sidney Wolfe, director of Public Citizen's Health
Research Group; Professor Larry Gostin of Georgetown University Law Center and Johns Hopkins School of Public
Health; and Professor George Annas of Boston University School of Public Health.
The conference will include a plenary panel on the role of law in improving public health, as well as a series of panels on violence prevention,
managed care litigation, hazardous products litigation and the public health
ramifications of globalization.
Immediately preceding the American Public
Health Association's Annual Meeting in Boston, the conference begins on
Friday, November 10th, and will continue through Saturday, November 11th.
Registration
- $35 per person prior to November 3
- $15 per person to attend the lunch on Saturday, November 11 (must be reserved by November 3)
- $50 at the door
