  • A Northeastern University study, headed by law professor Deborah A. Ramirez and criminology professor Jack McDevitt, has found that black and other minority suspects are far more likely than whites to face stiffer charges and longer prison terms, even when they have similar criminal records or play similar roles in the crimes. The study was reported in July by the independent research group Mass Inc. in the summer issue of Commonwealth magazine.

  • Professor Clare Dalton and her husband, former U.S. Secretary of Labor Robert Reich, will star in A.R. Gurney's play, Love Letters, on September 22, 2000. Proceeds will benefit the school's Domestic Violence Institute.

  • The School of Law has joined forces with Tufts University School of Medicine to offer a dual-degree program leading to the JD and Master's of Public Health. In celebration of this new partnership, the two institutions will jointly sponsor a fall conference on Law and Public Health: A Partnership in Action, November 10-11, 2000. (more)

  • Professor Clare Dalton has been named the Matthews Distinguished University Professor for 2000-2002. The professorship recognizes, rewards and furthers the scholarly and creative activities of prominent Northeastern University professors. (more)

  • Stephen Rosenfeld, Esq., and his wife Massachusetts Superior Court Judge Margot Botsford, class of 1973, have established a fellowship at Health Law Advocates named in honor of Professor Wendy E. Parmet. (more)
