Research Help at the Reference Desk

The NUSL Law Library provides research help to NUSL's Coop students. You can contact us in person, on the phone, or by email.

Inter-library Loan

Materials not available at the Northeastern University Law Library may be borrowed from other libraries through inter-library loan. Inter-library loan request forms are available at the circulation desk. Books from selected academic libraries may also be borrowed through the Boston Library Consortium’s Virtual Catalog at www.lib.neu.edu/gateway/vc.htm.

Access to Other Libraries

Members of the School of Law community have access to all the resources at Snell Library which serves the general Northeastern University community. Students can also borrow material from the University’s John D. O’Bryant African-American Institute Library.

The library’s membership in the New England Law Library Consortium and the Boston Library Consortium offers our students access to area law libraries and research facilities. Consult a reference librarian for detailed information about access to other libraries.


Usage of Lexis Westlaw Passwords on Coop

WESTLAW:

While on Coop, Northeastern Law School students may use their Law School
Westlaw passwords for:

  • public interest externships/internships not including federal,
    state, or local government and courts
  • pro bono and public service program activity required for
    graduation
  • research for a law professor, or for a law school course, clinic,
    or moot court
  • Students may not use their law school Westlaw passwords for
    research for a court, government office, law firm, or any job
    where a client would be charged for the students’ work.


LEXIS:

While on Coop, Northeastern Law School students may use their Law School
Lexis passwords for:

  • public interest externships/internships including federal, state,
    local government and courts
  • pro bono and public service program activity required for
    graduation
  • research for a law professor, or for a law school course, clinic,
    or moot court
  • If they are working for a firm, organization or any other entity which
    charges a client for the students’ time or research performed, then
    use of the academic ID would be in violation of the academic use
    rules.

BNA's E-Alert's
The Law Library is pleased to announce that all Northeastern University School of Law faculty, students, and staff may individually register to receive BNA’s U.S. Law Week email service. BNA’s e-alert provides email highlights and reports to NUSL for BNA’s U.S. Law Week and BNA’s Supreme Court Today. The U.S. Law Week e-alert is sent every Tuesday. Supreme Court Today e-alerts track the latest developments in the current Supreme Court term. Please click the BNA link for self-registration email sign up.

    P Center for Computer-Assisted Legal Instruction (CALI)
    The CALI Library of Lessons is a collection of over one hundred interactive, computer-based lessons covering twenty-seven legal education subject areas. Access is restricted by license to Northeastern University School of Law students, faculty, and staff. Authorized users may request a password from a law library reference librarian.
     
    Law Library Microform Consortium's Digital Collection
    This resource is available to the Northeastern University community. It is a searchable database of documents and decisions from Federal Legislative, Judicial and Executive bodies.

    Website of the National Center on Poverty Law, a non-profit organization. The Center carries out legal and policy research and provides legal services to low-income clients. The “Clearinghouse Review” area has scholarly articles in the area of Poverty Law and is the electronic version of their print journal. Materials such as cases and articles are also available. By license agreement, this resource is available to Northeastern University students, faculty, and staff.
