How to install a network printer

1. Go to Start menu, then Settings, then Printers and Faxes.

2. In the upper-left corner, under Printer Tasks, click on Add a Printer.

3. The Add Printer Wizard will start. Click Next.

4. You will be asked if it is a local printer or a network printer. Make sure network printer is selected, then click Next.

5. You will be asked to specify a printer. Choose the middle option, Connect to this printer. In the Name box, type:

\\155.33.32.220\printername

where printername is the name of the printer you want to install. The name of the printer can be found on the front or top of the printer, on a label attached by Computer Services. The format of the printer name is a 2-character code for the building the printer is located in (KV for Knowles, CG for Cargill, CP for Columbus Place) followed by the word LAW, followed by the letter P, followed by a 2-digit number. For example, to install CGLAWP02 (the main faculty printer in 46 CG), type:

\\155.33.32.220\CGLAWP02

in the box. Click Next. You may receive an error message that the printer cannot be installed because access is denied. If this happens, please e-mail Dave McNeil at d.mcneil@neu.edu and ask him to add you to the SLAW group so you can access the network printers.

6. You will be asked if this printer should be the default printer. Choose Yes or No, then click Next.

7. The Add Printer Wizard will be done. Click Finish.

If you run into any problems, please call Computer Services at 617-373-8919.
