PROFILE
OF NUSL:
Northeastern University School of Law offers the only Cooperative Legal
Education Program in the nation. Students complete a traditional first
year of academic study and then alternate every three months between full-time
internships (co-ops) in a legal setting and attending classes full time.
This blending of academic and work experience has proven extraordinarily
successful in preparing students for both the theoretical and practical
demands of practicing law.
There are more
than 800 employers nationwide and abroad which participate in the co-op
program, representing virtually every practice area, including law firms
of all sizes, trial and appellate judges in federal and state courts, public
defender and district attorney's offices, legal services organizations,
government agencies, corporate and union legal departments, and a variety
of advocacy groups.
An official transcript
from the School of Law is comprised of narrative evaluations of a student's
work in each academic course as well as written evaluations from each of
the student's co-op employers. There is no alphabetic or numeric grading,
class rank or law review competition.
