The Co-op Experience

Welcome to The Co-op Experience, a new feature of our website and NUSL Newsbriefs (our online newsletter for alumni/ae) that will offer brief, informal pieces written by NUSL students about their unique co-op experiences.  We plan to offer this feature periodically in NUSL Newsbriefs and we will also maintain an archive of stories on the law school website.  Enjoy!

In the Public Interest: Rebuilding New Orleans
  by Jennifer Schlissel ‘09
Like many others, I witnessed the dramatic images in the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and wanted to contribute to efforts to rebuild New Orleans. I decided to work with New Orleans Legal Assistance in their Housing Law Unit.  This afforded me a unique view

WiFi Boston: Helping the City Go Wireless
  by Paula Lyons ‘09

Intern Edition: My Co-op at NPR    by Bernice Lee ‘08
For my summer co-op, I worked in the Office of the General Counsel at National Public Radio, Inc, a privately supported, not-for-profit membership organization that serves 26 million listeners every month through over 800 independently operated, noncommercial public radio stations.  Comprised of seven attorneys, each specializing in different areas of law, the office manages all the legal affairs of NPR.  [ Read more ]

Patent Law Co-op gets an “Outstanding”    by Lindsay Wood ‘08
“Outstanding” is the word I would use to describe my summer working at Day Casebeer Madrid & Batchelder, LLP, a boutique law firm involved with high tech patent litigation.  Throughout my co-op, I worked alongside some of the most talented and creative lawyers in this exciting area of law.  I was given the same assignments as first, second, and third year associates, completing claim construction charts, summarizing patent prosecution history for software patents, and attending interviews of expert witnesses.    [ Read more ]
