NUSL Alumni/ae
Association, Inc. - Board of Directors
Founded in 1974, the Alumni/ae Association
exists to increase the number of actively engaged School
of Law alumni/ae, to provide opportunities for alumni/ae to interact and
maintain relations with each other and the general School of Law community
and to promote the public image and well-being of the School of Law.
The Alumni/ae Association has a board
of directors consisting of approximately 30 graduates who
serve three-year terms. From time to time, one or more current NUSL
students are appointed to serve as student representatives to the board.
Reunions and Alumni/ae Day
Reunions and Alumni/ae Day
(held in the fall) offer a time for connecting with old friends
and making new ones, visiting campus and revisiting your law school years
and faculty. The Office of Development and Alumni/ae Relations
coordinates the reunions of those classes celebrating their 5th, 10th,
15th, 20th, 25th and 30th class reunions. Check out recent photo albums!

Opportunities for Student Distinction Program (alumni/ae mentoring)
Northeastern University School of Law is committed to enhancing and promoting
the collaborative education model by providing students with opportunities
to distinguish themselves through involvement in a wide array of competitions.
The Opportunities for Student Distinction program (OSD) has compiled opportunities
for student leadership and scholarship within and beyond the NUSL community
including moot court, mock trial and rigorous writing competitions.
OSD seeks alumni/ae mentors willing to be paired with students involved in
external competitions, as a means for facilitating further alumni/ae involvement
with NUSL and to provide students with an opportunity to be coached by professional
practitioners. Most coaching opportunities pertain to the development of
pieces to be entered into external writing competitions.
Individual alumni/ae mentors and students will work together to determine
an appropriate schedule for meetings, either in person or via phone/email,
depending on the availability of both individuals as well as the commitment
necessitated by the topic and nature of the competition itself. At
present, OSD recommends a weekly check-in meeting (in person or otherwise)
between mentor and student, but because the mentoring program is evolving
it is difficult to identify the time commitments in advance. While there
are competitions throughout the year, the largest portion of external writing
competitions are in May or June.
External writing competitions are categorized by OSD according to areas of
law, and competing students will be matched with interested alumni/ae based
on the alumni/ae's field of practice as it accompanies the competition topic.
The writing competitions are in the following areas:
Civil Procedure
Jurisprudence and Legal History
Constitutional Law
Labor
and Employment Law
Corporations and Business Law Professional Responsibility
Criminal Procedure
Property
Law
Environmental Law
Public
Interest and Advocacy
Family Law and Estate Planning Public Regulation
Health Law
Social Issues
Intellectual Property
Special Topics
International Law
Underrepresented Groups
In addition, there are opportunities for alumni/ae coaching and mentoring
in various external moot court and mock trial competitions, although these
ventures are far more time-intensive and require frequent in-person meetings
and practices, as well as travel to the competition itself.
If you are interested in becoming involved with OSD as an alumni/ae mentor,
please contact Mielle Marquis, Associate Director of Alumni/ae Relations
via email (m.marquis@neu.edu) or by phone (617.373.3819).
