Academics/Co-op
As
a Northeastern Law student, you'll use co-ops, clinics, classroom
courses and independent studies to customize your legal education. We
believe that law school graduates who follow their own dynamic and
individualized courses of study are more skilled and knowledgeable as
well as more able to hit the ground running when they leave law
school for the world of practice.
Your Path
Some
students come to law school knowing exactly what type of law they want
to practice. Others are looking for their niche. The student who is
certain she wants to practice intellectual property law at a large firm
can spend all four of her co-ops working in this field. But she may
decide to explore this field in four different cities. Or, she may
decide to use one of her co-ops to explore a different field, such as
international human rights. The student who plans to live in Boston and
work in legal services may take this opportunity to live in Alaska for
11 weeks, working for the US attorney or a private law firm.
Areas of Concentration
You
can specialize in any area of law. Combine co-ops with upper-level
courses, clinics, independent study opportunities with individual
professors, mentoring opportunities with graduates and student
organization activities. Engaged faculty members mentor students in
every field.
Academic Atmosphere
Following
a unique path does not mean foresaking the basics. At Northeastern, we
provide a well-designed academic support program and an advising system
that meets all of your academic and personal needs.
Getting to your Goals
As
a Northeastern law student, you will begin planning your future right away. Our faculty and
administrators will support and guide you in making decisions about
co-ops and coursework, but it will be up to you to set your goals based
on your interests, skills, talents and passions. There are
approximately 600 students at the School of Law, and that means there
are 600 unique paths.
